About Us

Maison Soleil was founded by Lindsay Sims, Washington, D.C., in November 2017 as Jolie Soleil Boutique. Lindsay started the business because she was bored in her consultant job in DC, and needed a creative outlet. Lindsay always had a passion for fashion and being unique, so retail was a perfect choice. Lindsay focused on helping women in the beginning and in 2020, rebranded Jolie Soleil Boutique to Maison Soleil, incorporated the business, and had a unique logo created just for the business. In 2022, she opened the first brick and mortar shop in her hometown, Norfolk, VA.

Maison Soleil is a fashion boutique created to bring people together. Our customers are the backbone of our business. They are supporters of ethical and sustainable fashion and agree that fair trade principles are a way of life. The word "Maison" comes from the french fashion houses but also can be interpreted to mean that we are a home for others. Our store brings style and fair trade together to create a beautiful synergy under one roof. "Soleil" is Lindsay's middle name and is from a song "Nous sommes du soleil", which means we are one under the sun. Lindsay felt connected to this and wanted it to resonate with all who enter the store.

Now, Maison Soleil is going through a brand refresh. With help from others in the community, Lindsay has enhanced the store space to include more color and a more diverse offering to the community. Maison Soleil is also home to Marque- a curated vintage collection by Cole Pilovsky, and the 757 Community Closet- which provides clothes and hygiene products to unhoused and low income residents in Norfolk. Maison Soleil also tries to give back to the community as much as possible with donations, events such as clothing swaps that benefit the Samaritan House in Virginia Beach.

When she is not a hardworking business owner, Lindsay is a bookkeeper and auditor, wife, and proud pet owner of four rescued pets. You can find her supporting local community, or at home with her pets, cuddled up on the couch, watching good TV or reading a romance novel.
